Every NFL fanbase wants to believe their favorite team nailed their first round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. These five teams did just that.
Every NFL front office will tell their fan base they are ecstatic with the player they were able to land in Round 1 of the NFL Draft. Only a handful of those teams should really be applauded for the work they were able to do on Day One.
By and large, the teams that do the best in Round 1 are those that don’t feel compelled to draft based on need. Instead, they focus on taking the best player available. That doesn’t mean these franchises ignore positional need altogether. It just means they don’t allow it to dictate their draft strategy.
Of course, teams that come out of Round 1 with new franchise quarterbacks tend to get extra credit. That is, after all, the most important position in the modern NFL. Read on to discover which five teams really nailed their work in Round 1.
5. Tennessee Titans
The Titans were fortunate not to enter Round 1 with any glaring needs. That allowed them to gamble on a big-time talent with the No. 22 overall pick. If Caleb Farley shakes off his injury issues he has a chance to turn into an All-Pro cornerback in Tennessee.
It’s worth noting that Farley might have to take a “redshirt” year due to his back issues, but Tennessee correctly understands that he can still provide supreme value over the full life of his rookie contract. Drafting him was a nice move for a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations in 2021.
