CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The Lieutenant (Harvey Keitel) shoots out the car stereo after losing his bet on a baseball game.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
If police lieutenant Harvey Keitel’s life could get any more sordid, he could probably sell tickets. The least of his vices is gambling, which has gotten him in Dutch with the mob. He abuses his body with drugs and his soul with hookers, and now he’s turned to exploiting teenage girls for sex. Keitel is forced to reassess his life while investigating the rape of a nun. Director Abel Ferrara co-wrote the screenplay with Zoe Lund, who as Zoe Tamerlis starred in Ferrara’s cult classic Ms. 45. A soundtrack tune by rapper Schoolly D, which was included in the initial release of Bad Lieutenant, featured a sample from Led Zeppelin which was used without permission; the song has since been excised from the soundtrack.

  1. what do you do about a NYPD rookie on their 1st day being taken to a B&B a being watched the whole time while they help themselves to guns, drugs & $ ??

  2. 1:19 Susan where are you were is the stazi,….lol. I guess it’s still ok as he is a white cop.

  3. I was tuned up one night playing poker on line. In the middle of a big hand the computer locks up. I did like Keitel except I didnt fire just 1 shot I unloaded the whole clip of my 9mm into the computer screen and CPU. True story

  4. When you’re higher than three Keitels, your team has a double hit against them, you’ve got money gambled on it, you shoot the radio with a .357, then put on the siren. A that point you know it is going to be a rough day.

  5. What policing is going to look like from 2020 on @ 1:01. Look at the cop in the background outside the Lieutenant’s window.

  6. Been in a place pretty familiar to this, it took a lesson to learn, but if you can suffer for a couple days your head comes back and life goes on.

  7. Pretty sure it’s an imaginary playoff interspersed with scenes from an actual one(1988?),one the Dodgers won.

  8. In the background there’s a cop who heard the yelling and gunshot who has his hand ready at his holster only to realize that its his lieutenant then proceeds to casually continue his patrol.

This is one of the aspects why this film is so good. It shows a subtle power dynamic within the the film. Its a disgusting yet dose of reality that people like Keitel in the film actually do exist in those influential positions.

  9. If his true personality is even remotely close to this, I never want to meet Harvey Keitel. There are enough insane crazy people that surround me already.
