The Jets may have lost the battle for the No. 1 pick to the Jaguars, but they still have a lot of buying power in the 2021 NFL Draft. They’re one of three teams with multiple first-round picks along with the Jaguars and Dolphins, and it seems like they’re focusing on finding a quarterback to take with the No. 2 overall selection.

Right now, it seems like BYU’s Zach Wilson is leading the charge for that spot, but anything could happen in the lead up to the 2021 NFL Draft, especially in a group flush with good passers including Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones.

Quarterback won’t be the only need the Jets focus on this offseason. They need to rebuild their once-strong defense and plug a couple of glaring holes on offense. That said, if they get their franchise quarterback, they should be positioned to improve rapidly on that side of the ball if all goes well thanks to their solid offensive line and receiving corps.

Jets NFL Draft needs

  • Quarterback: Sam Darnold struggled immensely last year and has averaged 13 interceptions per year to start his NFL career. Zach Wilson is a replacement for the Jets to consider with the No. 2 pick.
  • Cornerback: The Jets need a true No. 1 corner for their defense. They could target one early in the draft.
  • Running back: Will the Jets trust La’Mical Perine as the starter in 2021? Maybe, but adding some talent to pair with him and Tevin Coleman would be a wise move.
  • Edge rusher: The Jets did well to add Carl Lawson to their lackluster edge rush unit this offseason. They could still use a running mate for him after losing Jordan Jenkins in free agency.
  • Tight end: Chris Herndon is running out of time to live up to his potential. It’s time the Jets consider adding some true competition for him and veterans Ryan Griffin and Tyler Kroft.
